Filling the gorge with its white diesel
smoke, the Conrail locomotive works hard as it pulls its
train up the West Branch of the Susquehanna River late in the afternoon, August
2002.
Eight miles below Renovo, Pennsylvania, the
rumble of steel and the roar of the diesel locomotives
echo throughout the mountains of the Sproul State Forest.
